Poshmark connects users by allowing them to shop in each other’s closets anytime they wish. One local user, Kenita Calhoun, has already sold hundreds of dollars in merchandise. Not only is she a successful seller, though, she’s hooked on buying as well. She calls it her “Posh Karma” – she thinks if she buys from others, they’ll return the favor.
A year ago, Ashley Diedrich worked 12-hour shifts at a psychiatric hospital near her home in Hot Springs, Ark., making $1,700 to $2,000 a month. Today she makes as much as $3,000 a month peddling women’s clothing and accessories from home. The career change was spurred by an iPhone app called Poshmark.
Poshmark, the used-fashion mobile marketplace, says people are uploading $1 million in inventory each day, and launched an iPad app to take advantage of the growth.
With Poshmark’s mobile app, your closet becomes a discount-fashion warehouse. Real-time “Posh Parties” bring the limited-time-sale urgency of daily deals, but with a social flavor. By making clearing out your closet easy and fun rather than a tiresome, once-a-year chore, Poshmark is bringing entirely new inventory into the world of online commerce.
