Online fashion marketplace Poshmark became popular as a way for women to buy and sell clothes harvested from the depths of closets across the U.S. Armed with a new round of funding, the service has its sights on transforming its bestselling shops into truly global fashion boutiques.

The buzzy app and site turns reselling into a social event. One can join a Posh Party with his or her friends, trying out themes such as Cocktail Hour or by specific designer. Anytime a sale is made, Poshmark provides a pre-paid, pre-addressed label— no stamps needed. The company recently ventured into luxury brands, which includes authentication of frequently bootlegged names such as Gucci and Prada.
Poshmark is unique in that women also can use the app to connect with other users. “If I see a dress I like, I can say ‘@stephanie, tell me about the dress.’ And through that process you just get more personal; you get to know the women. I think that’s a huge part of the success of Poshmark. You get to meet really empowering women who all have similar interests, obviously fashion.
